Merely poking at your max capacity will all come crumbling down on you once something unexpected happens that'll send you over the edge. We're talking family stuff, sickness, world events, etc.
And it's so so so frustrating because once upon a time you could do it all and that time is now over.

Sure, it's been going slow. I started studying Japanese "seriously" on my own around 2 years ago. A lot of things were going on at the same time so I had to carve out small moments for practice. Now, the only thing I regret is not starting sooner. Though young me was probably not ready for it.

So I figured, maybe my soul-hobby is learning new languages. But I needed to figure out a way to make it as satisfying for me as these games did. And I think that self-study is the way. The real challenge is to block out the time for it.

And yes, some of that soul-searching came in the form of video games. Titles like Chants of Sennaar and Heaven's Vault helped me understand that recognizing patterns in language and connecting the dots between them is deeply satisfying and fulfilling for me.
