/2 "The town of Florence now boasts an outdoor space called Exploding Whale Memorial Park; last yr, after a weeklong celebration leading up to Exploding Whale Day, people gathered there in costume...I find myself empathizing with the engineer who conceived the dynamite plan. I’ve been there.

Daniel - just a note to say now much my wife and I appreciate your posts. Part of it, of course, is that we live in the Bay Area, to which you continue to pay attention. But mainly it is because of what a clear, balanced teacher you are. Great work! We hope you'll be able to keep it up!

Great stats & some of the best goals I've ever seen. At least 2 left footed blasts from distance but the bicycle kick goal has to be the top. More important, she has been a great team player, working from 1 end of the pitch to the other. And last yr playing center back bec/the team needed her there.

/2 Just finished listening to the chapter with Rosalind Franklin's death. Tragic.
I was aware of the controversy over Franklin and the double helix (and The Double Helix) but had never looked hard at it. The clearly close friendship betw/Franklin and Crick (actually the Cricks) impressed me.

/2 So, Mark, what do you think the chances are that they will wriggle (slither?) out of applying the same "too short a time" rule to California's redistricting? It scarcely seems possible...and yet.

Right! Along with his Alpha, Beta (Bethe), and Gamow article. But either it wasn't in the book or I just overlooked the reference to Tompkins in his book.

It has been excellent! (At least, up through about 1957, where I am currently listening.)
