Something @pkrugman.bsky.social said years ago about the 2nd Iraq war has stuck with me: to be considered a serious thinker by the mainstream, even in retrospect, you had to have been completely wrong about Iraq for a few years, then have changed your mind. I suspect we’ll see a lot of this.

This would not happen in a democracy, which is why, if we are serious about our commitment to it, we must accept we do not currently live in democracies and that moving towards such a system would require radical change rather than faith in the status quo

Carney isn't just failing Canada, he's failing the world. If we don't stand for democracy and a rules-based international order, why would any other country come to Canada's defence when we need it?

I won't start ranting about it because I just get myself worked up, but quickly: I literally can not think of an investment of public funds that has a higher return than *cleaning the indoor air in schools*. It's so easy, so cheap, & has such HUGE payoff. Criminal that we basically don't do it.

I’ve just learned (knew but forgot maybe) that the original design from France was supposed to include broken chains in her left hand, not a book. Chains remain but at her feet, not visible to most.
