Lol. I use his concept of heterotopia a lot. But that’s just one 8-page paper.

This is one reason we appreciate you

My use of “precision/imprecision” there isn’t helping my case, huh

lol to be fair as someone who has been writing a theory-intensive book I do find that there are things that can only be communicated through the precision/imprecision of dense and technical prose (I hope my writing isn’t incomprehensible though)

We just have to lean into having saggy jawlines, Kira. It annoys me but it’s the way we prove we look real and beautiful

This is one of many reasons why the renunciations should be repeated at every reaffirmation of baptism!

FWIW I support Freedom for Immigrants, RAICES, and Al Otro Lado, which are all more focused on direct support but I think consistent with abolitionism

“Political not partisan” means our moral horizon always goes beyond the platform of any party, not that partisan politics isn’t morally relevant

Anyways, the goal appears to be to shift the window to "cops can kill anybody anytime" like how the DoD can just murder people on boats for any reason at any time. This is why it's important to understand why "criminal" is just not a fixed category. It can become so big to include everyone.

I’m a little more universalist than that, but it’s because of optimism about God’s persistent solidarity more than a foreclosing of the neighbor’s will

I love this point about Cornelius’ neighbors vouching for him though because the same is true for Paul as well! Paul is reasonably mistrusted except that Ananias vouches for him

Just like there is one good man in Sodom, there’s only one penitent centurion? 😂

I do land ultimately on believing that the desire that all be saved through accountability and repentance and none be excluded IS what defines our good. What I struggle with is how easily that slips into love that does not insist on accountability as an ongoing good.

I’ve never thought about this particular one in this way, but you’re right. Same with the centurion who tells Jesus “I too am a man under authority.” I struggle with this!
