Thank you to Congressman Jamie Raskin for joining us in Maine for an inspiring conversation about voting rights. It was an honor to host the Congressman and I'm thrilled to have his support in this race. Thank you as well to Joann Bautista for being an excellent moderator.

Remember: Vote No on 1!

The 54,000 Mainers who rely on the PTC cannot afford the type of increases that are coming in 2026. Republicans in Washington are opposed to extending these subsidies. It’s time to hold them accountable and fight to protect affordable healthcare for Maine families.

In my 20s, I relied on Planned Parenthood for my primary care, and I know so many others that do the same. I'm deeply saddened by this news.

We need a governor who will fight to protect access, to keep our clinics open, and to make sure every Mainer can get the care they need.
Maine Family Planning will close its primary care practice at end of October
The organization says the decision will affect hundreds of patients and is the result of a new federal law that bans providers who also offer abortions from billing Medicaid.

This shutdown threatens health care for thousands of Mainers, food assistance, and puts families’ livelihoods at risk.

As Governor, I’ll fight to protect Mainers and make sure families come first.

Maine’s free community college program works. As Governor, I’ll make it permanent. Students, parents, teachers & employers all see the difference: affordable, accessible higher ed that builds the workforce we need in health care, schools, trades & more. Let’s get this done.

CMP’s latest request for a multi-year rate increase is egregious and out of touch with Maine’s affordability crisis.
Upgrading the grid matters, but Mainers shouldn’t foot the bill for corporate greed after years of underinvestment. The PUC must stand up to CMP and put Maine people first.
CMP’s new plan would increase bills — again. Mills calls that ‘unacceptable’
Though state officials say Mainers are already struggling to pay their electric bills, the utility says the distribution rate increases for hiring and resiliency upgrades would occur as some tempor…

Reports last night that a parent was detained by unidentified immigration officials outside Talbot Elementary in Portland during school drop-off are deeply disturbing. Maine families deserve better. We must stand up and reject these tactics and defend the values of dignity, compassion, and community
Detention of parent near Portland school is ‘traumatic’ for community, board chair says
District officials say officers in 'police' vests driving unmarked vans refused to identify themselves as they took the parent into custody Thursday morning near Gerald E. Talbot Community School.

Today, let us honor their memory not only with reflection, but with action—by recommitting ourselves to one another, to our shared values, and to our democracy.

Out of that tragedy, Mainers showed up—as we always do. Firefighters and first responders from across our state traveled to Ground Zero to help in the face of tragedy. I thank them for their bravery and their service. Their courage remind us of the strength and resilience that carry Maine forward.

Today, we pause to remember the lives tragically lost on September 11th, 2001. Nearly 3,000 people were taken from us that day, including six Mainers from Lewiston, Portland, Lubec, Gray, and Gorham. Close friends lost their loved ones and my heart still breaks for them.

Political violence is never acceptable and should be universally condemned. My thoughts tonight are with the family of Charlie Kirk, those harmed today in Colorado, and all families impacted by gun violence.

Housing is one of the biggest challenge facing Maine families today. Rising costs are pushing people out of their communities, and we can’t afford leaders who look the other way. I know the next governor must make affordable housing a top priority.

My Labor Day was well spent with good food and good people! After the Southern Maine Labor Council breakfast in Portland, I attended a cookout with the Amalgamated Transit Union, then headed up to Brewer for the Eastern Maine Labor Council's evening celebration.

Perkins warned that "no politician, no political party, no political group could possibly destroy this Act and still maintain our democratic system." Today, we celebrate workers and recommit ourselves to the incredible spirit of Perkins' fight.

Today is about the power of organized labor—and the continued fight for fair wages, safe workplaces, and an economy that benefits workers. We know there are incredible imbalances in our system, unprecedented wealth inequality and powerful interests in Washington trying to roll-back workers rights.

She succeeded in advancing the Fair Labor Standards Act, minimum wage, overtime for 40+ hour work weeks, child labor laws and the Social Security Act - which just celebrated it's 90th birthday! Ever since Frances Perkins left office, powerful business interests have worked to roll back her legacy.

A courageous woman with Maine roots, Frances Perkins, ran FDR's Department of Labor. She proposed to President Roosevelt the following list of policy ideas: the 40-hour week, minimum wage, workers comp, unemployment insurance, a ban on child labor, social security, and health insurance.

Labor Day is about honoring American workers, the progress of the labor movement, and how far we've come. I’m grateful for every Mainer who shows up, puts in the effort, and keeps our state moving forward. Today, I’d like to honor the first female cabinet secretary in US history, Frances Perkins.

The failure of federal policy leaders to protect the health and safety of Americans, and turn their back on life-saving advances, will require more and actions like this by strong Governors who are willing to do what needs to be done to save lives.
hannahpingree.bsky.social
The reckless decisions at the US Department of Health and Human Services put new responsibilities on Governors and states. Maine, working with seven other states, has already started to advance new public health guidance and consider policy options to protect the public.
