Any street in Manhattan looks trashy for about 30 minutes because of the amount of waste restaurants and bars produce. It’s only 30 minutes because they pile it up on the curb and gets hauled off. It’s impressive how well they deal with that volume. Trash cans would be irrelevant in most areas.

We’re not just talking about trash cans. A city with the rather NYC has, specifically Manhattan, makes it hard for trash men to maneuver bins around parked vehicles.
