⚡🦠I'm very excited to share our latest work on the gut microbiome and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is published in @natmetabolism.nature.com, with @hutlab.bsky.social & @longnguyen.bsky.social!

I am deeply grateful to @longnguyen.bsky.social @chuttenh.bsky.social for their guidance throughout the project. Also, I would like to acknowledge and thank all our amazing collaborators from @harvardmed.bsky.social @hsph.harvard.edu @broadinstitute.org who made this work possible! (6/6)

💡Altered metabolic profiles in MASLD, including reduced bile acids (e.g., isoallolithocholic acid) and increased long-chain acylcarnitines.

🧬All data are available at biom-mass.org, as well as the NIH-sponsored repositories. (5/6)

💡Distinct microbial signatures between non-lean MASLD (body mass index [BMI] ≥25 kg/m2) vs. lean MASLD (BMI <25 kg/m2)—the latter being a paradoxical subtype of a disease typically associated with increased adiposity. (4/6)

🔬Using multi-omic profiling (stool DNA, RNA, and metabolites), we discovered:
💡Transkingdom dysbiosis involving gut bacteria and viruses in MASLD
💡Widespread colonization of oral microbes, such as Veillonella and Streptococcus spp., in the gut of individuals with MASLD (3/6)

Our findings provide new insights into the gut-liver axis and the role of the microbiome in the etiopathogenesis of MASLD—a condition characterized by fat accumulation in the liver. (2/6)
