I did appreciate the small nod to their history in the Alistair and Morrigan dialogue that can happen under certain conditions in Skyhold. I'm sure that (and esp the Loghain version) were a hard sell based on who would actually see it... but they add a lot to the experience if you did play DA:O.

I'm personally a fan of the idea that this heightened portal-sense leads to the world-changing revelation that portals are everywhere. Or that everything is a portal.
