Each person who has ever heard the Gospel Message of salvation can thank God for sending the person and people who told them about Jesus and their need for salvation, and each time we lead someone to know and trust in Him, we become part of their testimony of how God showed mercy and lovingkindness.
Again, I don't believe that just getting into a tub of water and getting baptized can save anybody, nor can getting "really clean" physically, emotionally, and spiritually make anybody saved or salvation-worthy.
Our salvation comes when we hear about Who Jesus is and trust Him as the Son of God.
