Has anyone noticed the similarity between early 80s proto-meme "Chad" (left) & this inquisitive badger (right)? Are they perhaps related?

Just look out of the window to see why today's volunteer day has been moved to next Sunday. Join us to remove non-native trees from a naturally regenerating woodland. If that's not tempting enough, we'll have flapjack & brand new saw blades!

Just a small possie (yes, I said possie) for our last volunteer day of 2025 tomorrow. That can only mean one thing...extra flapjack! Join us if you can.

"Trees: from seeds to saplings" was the theme of the last event of 2025 from the Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre. Really useful knowledge sharing. Next year's events are linked below. @cumbriawildlife.bsky.social @leedsleaf.bsky.social @forestryengland.bsky.social

It's #NationalTreeWeek and yesterday we planted 800 trees along the edges of a newly rebuilt bridleway. It'll stablise the work and create a lovely mixed corridor of woodland in years to come. Oak, aspen, alder and grey willow pegs went in.

Decent views in the Duddon valley today. Not a bad day for our contractors felling larch for the project's timber needs. @leedsleaf.bsky.social @envleeds.bsky.social @forestryengland.bsky.social

At least Tombo and Hazbop have been busy peeling pointing and generally processing our larch into perfect posts. In contrast, local celebrity farmer Paddy seems to think he's done his bit. @leedsleaf.bsky.social @forestryengland.bsky.social

Every Autumn we host a visit from the University of Cumbria Outdoor Adventure & Environment students. It's a highly experiental course, so as we tour the site, we include practical tasks such as bramble translocation & planting some wildflowers. @leedsleaf.bsky.social

Another day planting wildflowers this weekend. This time with volunteers from our Growing Group™️, who brought along the plants they'd propagated themselves. More growers welcome (& needed).

After running a misty volunteer day on Sunday (another 1000 wildflowers planted), Jess decided to pop out from the clag to take this cracking photo of Harter Fell, which is right in the middle of our project area. @envleeds.bsky.social @leedsleaf.bsky.social @universityofleeds.bsky.social

The tour continues...what a busy & chatty morning we had at West Cumbria Volunteering Fair. Jack's addition of a microscope to examine lichens was a winner. We nearly ran out of leaflets! @reachvolunteering.org.uk @cumbriacvs.bsky.social @leedsleaf.bsky.social @forestryengland.bsky.social
