Interesting analogy in bringing "keeping the lights on" into the headline when that may be NZ's problem real soon due to the state of our energy sectors. Our home has resilience and energy independence from solar and EVs so why isn't the govt 'household' considering similar for NZ?

The rollout of higher export rates is happening. Worth noting (as the RNZ report hasn't) that those export rates are *per phase*. Important detail for those of us with 2 or 3 phase connectivity to our properties.

And NZ's vast hydro storage capacity gives us a huge advantage in being able to buffer intermittent wind & solar generation, by using our hydro as a massive grid scale battery. This is also the reason that pumped hydro makes long term sense.

NZ's largest undeveloped gas reserve is offshore of Raglan but the holder of that mining licence isn't interested in throwing investment money towards it because they're well aware of the overall fossil fuel situation, unlike our government it would appear.

Self consumption of your generation is by far the best return you'll get so HWC diverter, Evnex EV charger on solar diversion and everyday consumption biased towards sunshine hours. Our use model make battery viability questionable but V2H is very attractive to zero grid import if possible.

We own a total of >100kWh of battery capacity over 2 EVs. Waiting for the tech to allow us to use them to store our 15kW of solar capacity for V2H use. Cheaper /kWh than home batteries and on wheels so they can be used to bring power home from public charging for off grid independence.

Totally agree. Expect an absolute shitstorm to be unleashed on Luxon and the coalition this week. They can expect a barrage of abuse from voters, hopefully backed up at the polls when we get the chance to flush these turds to history.
