In class Wednesday, we discussed how in an experiment, people that read an article with the fact-check label were much less trusting of the information vs no label. Is there any way you think the news could go about mitigating this? Maybe changing the terminology of "fact-check"? #UWJ201 #304

When writing my media analysis essay, I thought it was interesting to see how often different sources write about my topic DEI. Fox,an ideological source, wrote by far the most about it over any of my sources, with NYT in second. Why do you think ideological sources talk more about DEI? #UWJ201 #304

We read an article this week about American’s knowledge of technology. The study showed that a small percentage of non-college educated adults could not identify two-factor authentication or other safety precautions. How can we fix this problem for those that don’t go to college? #UWJ201 #304

In lecture, we discussed the TV World, and how some groups (elderly, women, POC) are on TV much less. While we have been thinking of the world becoming more progressive, do you think Trump’s DEI policies will trickle into media and we will see even less of these groups than we do now? #UWJ201 #304

This week we read about what motivates reporters. Some things mentioned were awards, the front page, being first with new facts, and figuring out whats really happening. A lot of these things pertain more to print journalism rather than digital. What are some digital motivations? #UWJ201 #304

We discussed Graber’s 4 Functions of Journalism in class this week. Of the four functions (Surveillance, Interpretation, Socialization, Manipulation), are there any that you think are more important than the others in regards to creating good and relevant journalism? Why those ones? #UWJ201 #404

On Monday, Prof. Wagner showed us data saying that bigger companies are reporting on more negative news than small local companies. I wonder why and how these large corporations have been pigeonholed into reporting with a negative tone. Shouldn’t the larger public get good news too? #UWJ201 #304

In class on Monday, Prof. Wagner talked about how radio in WI is overwhelmingly conservative, but areas where there is an effort to move toward playing more civic media begin to lean more left. Is radio being underestimated as an impactful form of news in swaying voters left or right? #UWJ201 #304
