I don’t think accuracy is much of a concern to Scott. On his commentary to the first Gladiator an on set historian or expert told him soldiers probably didn’t do something a certain way and his response was “they bloody well do now .”

Ridley Scott movies with good scripts or source material, like The Martian or Blade Runner , are great movies . Those with terrible scripts are basically terrible movies that just look great . 😊

Meant to post this yesterday, but last night’s #HATM was released in the same summer as the movie named after this song . Great summer for soundtracks . Interestingly, both this version (which hit #1 in the U.S. ) and the original were in Spanish. Imagine that today.

I would like to thank @herberthistory.bsky.social for finally picking this movie . I’ve had a lot of the comments on this bottled up in my head for a long time. Was just waiting for us to do it. This was probably my most anticipated #HATM viewing for a long time. Now waiting for “Sinners.” 😊

Here is what makes this ending really interesting to me. It’s the summer of 1963 and we all know what lays ahead for the country and this little party is basically one of the last times we see a lot of people having fun and all seems right with the world. #HATM

I’m not 100% on this, but I think I read that the hotel that was the inspiration for Kellerman‘s closed down not too long after the summer of 63. So that kind of makes this scene a little more poignant. #HATM

World War II saw a lot of people older than the average soldier I think. In saving Private Ryan I think Tom Hanks character was probably in his early 30s.

And herein lies another layer of my theory. There is a chance that Penny and Johnny may remind him a bit of what the Germans saw as ideal people in terms of their physical appearance. And that could be present whether or not he was in the war. I just think it’s more interesting if he was. #HATM

I think there's also an element of the Jewish experience here as well - he knows people who died in the Holocaust, even if he didn't see the war himself - and there may be an element of guilt, and wanting his children to be the best they can, for those that cannot. #DirtyDancing #HATM

So here’s my theory about Jake. Given his age and the age of Baby, I think it’s quite plausible he was a doctor in World War II. He saw some horrific stuff and might see Johnny and his group as wasting the freedoms for which they fought . #HATM
