The council have included actual design overlays for the new Dundee Street Active Travel Project.

This is great, super detailed and easy to understand!

Keep it up @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
South Queensferry residents already suffer from the effects of excessive traffic with actual and perceived risk
to life, excessive noise, pollution and negative health impacts of increasing levels of inactivity, especially
amongst younger generations. With over 1600 properties built or planned to be built in just a few years within
the town, Edinburgh Council must act now to make active travel a more attractive option for people to choose
to travel to, from and around South Queensferry.
Spokes broadly welcome these proposals as we believe this could potentially be the start of what is required to
provide adults and children with the opportunity for active travel which for most does not currently exist.
There is an opportunity for a wider active travel network throughout South Queensferry and these proposals as
the currently stand exclude other areas of South Queensferry, for example other schools around the town. All
children and adults should have the right to exercise for free and to travel actively safely and we would urge
the Council, the Scottish Government and other funding partners to take a proactive approach to planning this
(and other) active travel networks, not just individual routes that are not joined up one of the main proposals maps in the consultation, showing the active travel route beside and crossing a road

Everyone moans about bats and great crested newts, but for me this is the sort of stuff that really clogs up the planning system. We have to decarbonise housing and every window replacement in one of Edinburgh's MANY conservation areas will need a planning application

Our deputation to Planning Committee 10/9/25 (not yet on CEC website)

Where we take the report to task for not tackling CEC's abysmal record on Developer Contributions and Infrastructure Delivery as regards buses. Despite our comments in earlier consultation.
Planning Committee 10/9/25
7.2 Non-statutory Planning Guidance on Developer Contributions and Infrastructure Delivery - finalisation

We note with regret the report's discussion on the merits and feasibility of statutory guidance, resulting in non-statutory guidance being finalised today.

We urge the Planning Committee to ensure that guidance specifically on public transport infrastructure will be appropriately strengthened in the next LDP and the necessary research and preparatory work will be properly resourced to achieve this.

We regret that Bus Service Infrastructure (3.81) only gets one paragraph (in stark contrast with other modes of transport) and lacks detail ("Contributions towards PT1 – 17 can be sought on a case by case basis").

We note the reference to CP 2030 ("There may, however, be a need for some subsidy payment to bus operators to ensure that an adequate service is in place from the moment of first occupation of the development whilst transport demand builds.") and would expect muscular implementation of this provision.

We note with regret that reference is made to "legacy actions" (3.82) but that the associated tables in Appendices 8 and 9 lack (up to date) cost details. Despite these weaknesses we would expect energetic collection of such contributions and timely implementation. In particular we would urge both the Planning and the Transport Environment Committee to monitor progress regularly

Spokes 2025 competition, intro to the post

#SpokesComp 2025 : My Favourite Bike Ride

For our 2025 summer competition we’d like to hear about your favourite local bike ride, in Edinburgh and/or the Lothians. It may be a leisure ride, or your daily commute or perhaps the school ‘run’ with your kids.

In judging the competition, we want to know not just the route itself but, most of all, why this ride is so special to you. Hopefully your entry will entice or inspire other people to get on their bike and try the same or something similar.

So that the competition does not require technical skills, judging will be based on written entries. Your route should be fairly easy to describe, without too many intricate instructions, frequent turnings, etc. Photos and/or a sketch can be included and often help, but are not essential. You can also include electronic mapping if you wish, but this will not be included in the judging.

🤩 #TravellingSafely West North East all now to be permanent

Incredible #TROSub mtg, decided in minutes after inordinate delays/deferrals at previous meetings

One intervention by #CllrLang, quickly disabused by officers

No one else spoke!

The @edi.bike/Spokes campaign has blindsided councillors!
BIKE NETWORK THREATENED
Under the Council’s Mobility Plan, the city’s future ‘Primary
Cycle Network’ will mainly comprise segregated bike lanes on
main roads. It was widely expected that the ‘Travelling Safely’
(covid) bike lanes would form the initial embryonic network, as
we highlighted in the 2025 Bulletin (extract here).
However, the TRO Subcommittee must first make permanent
the existing Experimental Traffic Orders (ETROs) which enable
the bike lanes through parking and loading restrictions.
The first ETRO, for East Edinburgh, expires soon. Officers
recommended approval, but to our surprise and shock, due to
an intervention by Cllr Kevin Lang, the May 12 TRO Sub put off
a decision. Exactly the same happened at a specially-called
meeting on 7 August! The final hope to save the East lanes
(which include School Safe Routes) is at their 4 September
meeting. The West and North ETROs are also on the agenda!
Led by Edi.Bike and Spokes, 18 Edinburgh active travel groups
have written to urge councillors to approve the ETROs.
Without approval, the East order will fall – the routes, used
by commuters, school pupils and leisure cyclists, will go - and
the same will likely happen to west, north and south.
Please contact your councillors to ensure the ETROs are approve

Green is open and mostly cycleble (there may be barriers still in places)

Red is still under construction or not cycleble at all

Yellow is mostly complete but parts at the end need finished off and some parts missing
