New paper alert! In my second first-author paper from my work on the Isle of Rum Red Deer Project @rumdeerresearch.bsky.social we show, for only the second time in a wild population, that parasites mediate inbreeding depression.

This paper began as a project during a PhD course in 2018, and would not have been possible without the hard work by and collaboration with @adamsiepielski.bsky.social , @phylieu.bsky.social , @drilvonen.bsky.social , @tiziana-gobbin.bsky.social , Jukka Suhonen, and Robert Poulin (2/2).

A great start to the 2025 seminar series with a talk from @hasikadam.bsky.social (thanks for organising @gretabocedi.bsky.social)
We heard about the importance of considering eco-evolution whilst looking at parasitology - with examples from odenates, deer and soay sheep

Submitted paper, got some (mostly fair) rigorous comments, made an appeal to the rejection, appeal was accepted, brought in new data and redid a ton, the one original reviewer liked it, one of the new reviewers complained about things in the paper, the other asked us to do the impossible. Rejected.

So how many years until we all decide it is too dangerous to travel to America for conferences and that all Americans need a health screening prior to travel because of the risk of polio?

(The latter is commonplace for citizens from the Global South trying to travel to the West.)
