Dream Design Dev Log 04: Cryptid Gift Shop

Move into a small shop at the edge of the woods. Spend your time collecting hearsay from locals about a mysterious creature in the woods, deciphering the cryptid, making cryptid merch, upgrading the shop, spreading the lore or even hunting it yourself.

Enjoy this title card Mock-Up for our mostly unannounced game that I'm pouring the last of my life-force into like one final giant indie game spirit-bomb.

Oh and worth noting I've had to cut the scope of this game in half at least 4 times, entirely changing the direction after 9 months of exploratory work. As well as changing from Unity to Unreal 4 months after that while teaching myself Unreal for the next ~6 months before I felt competent enough.

Anyhow, I'm sure things will be MUCH better in 2-3 years when I finish. Right? RIGHT?!

I am lucky to be able to make this game and it's exactly the game I want to be making so, not all doom and gloom.

This is the fun stuff I think about when I'm procrastinating. Anyhow, good luck out there.

Sexy Business! is sitting at 94,000 copies after 5 years. So, if i can hit half or a third of the previous audience, I might be okay.

But what worries me is seeing a lot of other indies release to much smaller sales than previous years. Like... 1/10th what their previous games did.

The cheap head math I like to use is that your game makes about "half" the asking price in net profit.

So if I were to make this a game $20, it would take 50,000 copies to break even. $30 would be ~33,000 copies.

Keep in mind I did not have $500k to spend when I started. I've been pretty much budgeting on passive income from previous titles and hoping that nothing drastically changes that.
November 12, 2025 at 9:39 PM
So far I've spent about $80k a year, roughly half of which is to pay myself. Honestly I think there are at -LEAST- 2 years left to go (plus a lot of expensive final touches like marketing, etc.) which means this project could end up costing $500k to finish. Or more!

Dream Design Dev Log 03: Monster Hunt

A PvE shooter about hunting down a monster/ghost/killer; like a more aggressive Dead By Daylight with a huge map.

There's a single foe each day of the week. You have this huge sci-fi base that would change/be haunted/afflicted based on the monster of the day.

I believe in you!

Acute guesswork. It's one of the first puzzles so it's meant to be a somewhat simple "toy" to ease you into the puzzle interfaces. Also inspired by blue prince since a lot of first impressions of my playtests brought up blue prince.

Congrats!

Also Also Me: Gaining much needed motivation from people enjoying and praising the game.

Me: I don't really need to playtest I'm just showing off to my friends.
Also Me: Full page of things to fix and tweak after every playtest.

Anyhow, burning through my time and money right now and hearing the Sonic drowning music except over the course of 5 years.
