It doesn't help when the average age of a Senator is actually retirement age. Lots of Boomers that cling to power for far too long and don't know when to give it up.

Macroeconomics 101: It is in a country's best interest to focus on mass producing the things that give the country the best profit margins. It doesn't benefit the country to put resources towards the products they don't do as well as because those resources are better suited elsewhere.
