I appreciate you putting this together. I'm in a few discords and people were, understandably, upset and worried and this answers some of the questions they were asking. Thank you for all the work you put into educating the rest of us.

Just in case, this is not questioning her nerdy, this is a call for someone to do a deep dive interview with her where she gets to talk about her favorite vampire cards because i would read the hell out of it.

I could go on, and I might come back and talk about some of the non-fiction I read too, but that's a problem for future me.

"City of stairs" by @robertjbennett.bsky.social was also unexpected. I knew nothing about it when I started and was happily surprised to discover a post-industrial fantasy world that I'm always looking for more of. The sequel is in my TBR pile.

@caitlinstarling.com's "Starving Saints" was the most unexpected book I read this year. I picked it up off my friend's coffee table and finished it by the end of the next week. It's a haunting, upsetting, and complicated work that creeped me the hell out. You should read it.

"Wolf Hall" by Hillary Mantel is a work probably a dozen people have told me to read over the years and they were all right. Everyone already knows about this book so I don't need to sell it, but it's a really great, slow read.

I can't believe publishers are passing on "the storm remains" by @suzusaur.bsky.social. It's everything I want in a fantasy story: POV characters with strong interiority, internal and external conflict with purpose, and fight scenes that understand how weapons work. This deserves to be on shelves.

"The works of vermin" by @hironennes.bsky.social is an amazing followup to one of my favorite books of 2023, Leech. "The Works" feels like chewing on a velvet whiskey-soaked, smoke-infused couch cushion. I can't recommend more. If the idea of a rococo horror novel interests you, pick it up today.

I played this game a single time in 1998 and I've been thinking about it ever since.

Growing the church with people who neither understand or embody the beliefs of the church is empty growth.
