It's funny how a bit part character can so quickly become one of the most crucial players in the story but god damn, when it works it works.

Another funny thing that happened, I added an extra character to the story a year into publishing on a whim. And this character re-contextualized EVERYTHING in the story to the point where they are now a critical piece to how EVERYTHING is all tied together.

To give you an idea of how rough the early ideas were.
- There were maybe Humans?
- Hudson wasn't going to appear until ACT 2.
- Corvo fighting a band of goblins was a story beat I briefly and seriously considered.
- Chrom didn't even exist until a year before publishing our first chapter.

Also I'm very glad I didn't rush it. The original story ideas from 2015 were TERRIBLE and if I had started doing it as a comic right away I would have abandoned it pretty quickly. But I'm very proud of the story road-map as it is now, and I think it's really good.

If I dedicated ALL of my free time to working on EOTW then maybe it'd take 7-8 more years to finish. Which is still more than I would like, but that's life.

That said, it takes me one day to do a page on average. If each chapter is roughly 25 pages, with an expected run of 30-ish chapters, and giving time to do additional writing/thumbnails/etc, it should only take roughly 3 years to finish if I was working on it full time.

Realized today I have been writing EOTW for 10 years now. I'm a little ashamed that in the last 6 years I've only produced half of ACT 1, at this rate it'll take me 36 more years to finish the whole god damn comic. Though I can blame Odysseon for taking up half of its development time. OH WELL.

I'd want to do more research and peer review and that's already more work on top of script writing and editing. This just further proves my point that most working artists don't have the time to be making silly YT videos.

that's the thing, as a working artist I can't be giving myself MORE projects to work on, I already have ETOW, and Odysseon ON TOP of my actual day job working on Dota. Writing career advice is something I may be experienced enough to know about, but probably not qualified to give.

I see what you're getting at, but at the end of the day this is still a job, and even on those days where you're dissatisfied with your work (I've had many myself) the work still needs to be done. It's that angle that I'm more specifically talking about in this context.

can't make it as a career artist, starts YT channel. The actual career artists are doing things like Siggraph and GDC lectures and stuff, not making top 10 lists of the WORST MISTAKES EVERY BEGINNER ARTIST DOES where number 1 is using a mechanical pencil or something stupid like that.
