Yes, but on High Pennines, 1000 ft asl, there’s not much for sheep/cattle to eat in winter. There are few woods & sheep destroy them so are fenced out. Sheep live outside all winter but need feed - I’ve dug many ewes out of huge drifts - have to do it by hand/shovel so you don’t hurt sheep.

Grass ferments inside the plastic - damp hay, warm sunshine - so they can go with a bang if you accidentally make a hole in plastic. So fermented hay is silage tho sheep much prefer dry hay.

Much prefer the old way of making & bailing hay as you could move bales by hand whereas now you need a tractor to feed animals in winter. I know it’s quicker but somehow magic of looking after animals has gone.

I couldn’t juggle tennis balls but I can carry a bale on my back for a mile or more to hungry sheep & newly made, slightly damp, wonderful flowery smelling hay, several trailer loads a day.
These days they are big round bales & moved by tractors.
