My bad, had seen others say you are staff
April 28, 2025 at 1:29 PM
Also I gotta say I love how quoting actually sends a notification on bsky unlike twitter where people use it to get snarky without you knowing (not saying that is your intention, just saying I like actually seeing that people quoted me)

"But how could they not know when Genshin is huge?" Easy, video game voice actors are a very small part of the overall union. Most people in the union have nothing to do with video games, so Genshin wouldn't be on their radar.

As for why it's only become a problem now here is a SAG-AFTRA staff member explaining why things fall through the cracks: bsky.app/profile/kyle...

Basically the union can't track what people do outside of the union, and therefore relies on reports. No one reported it so it went unnoticed.
I wasn't blaming anyone. The union can't track what 160k members are doing outside of its own contracts. Someone has to tell staff when that's happening to enforce the rule.
April 28, 2025 at 2:57 AM
Yeah idk if you've seen but places like the official Genshin Impact subreddit have been completely overrun with anti-SAG propaganda. Just outright lies being spread constantly with zero moderation, and considering the company controls the subreddit it does raise eyebrows.
April 28, 2025 at 2:53 AM
Hey, you might want to reread that because it VERY CLEARLY states at the top that "you may audition for non-union work. However you cannot work without a union contract".

Like seriously, the thing you're citing directly disagrees with what you are claiming.
April 28, 2025 at 2:51 AM
Bro can't make a real argument so calls people autistic. Real brave.
April 28, 2025 at 2:49 AM
Oh and for the record he isn't some random guy speculating. He's literally a SAG-AFTRA staff member who sends those letters out.
April 28, 2025 at 2:48 AM
How do you know Erika isn't lying then, hmm? The community's current outrage is the perfect opportunity to garner sympathy and support after all.

If you're going to assume one person is lying then why do you believe the other? Instead of believing both?
April 28, 2025 at 2:47 AM
If you made a true statement, but it got community noted and widely panned, would you leave that true statement up including that factually incorrect community note? Personally I wouldn't, since that further spreads misinformation.
April 27, 2025 at 2:43 PM
If you read through them and still disagree then I am more than happy to discuss why that is. Law isn't totally black and white and there absolutely is room for debate. But you have to actually know what it is that you are really debating.
April 27, 2025 at 2:42 PM
I've literally read the laws and contracts involved, I really don't need to watch a youtuber talk about it. And I sent you links to those laws and the Supreme Court case involved, so you too can read through them and decide whether or not you still disagree.
April 27, 2025 at 2:41 PM
They are correct about there being a 30 day limit before the union can make a requirement. They are just not fully correct about what that requirement is. This is not uncommon, even with professionals, because most people do not research labor law.
April 27, 2025 at 2:40 PM
Community notes are entirely dependent on people voting on them. The average person is not knowledgeable on the law, and if a community note *looks* correct they will vote that it *is* correct. That does not make it inherently true or false.
April 27, 2025 at 2:39 PM
His assumption was incorrect as you can see in that official government source:

"The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the right of employees to go on strike whether they have a union or not"
April 27, 2025 at 2:38 PM
Finally, to back up my claim of Joe having inaccuracies an example is that he was wrong about the Genshin/Hoyo strikes not being strikes due to not being started by a union.

Here is the NLRB (agency that regulates strikes) page detailing what a legal strike is: www.nlrb.gov/strikes
www.nlrb.gov
April 27, 2025 at 2:38 PM
And here is the court case I referenced: supreme.justia.com/cases/federa...

Even if you don't want to read the laws, or don't understand the language used in them, I implore you to read this. It is surprisingly easy to understand and explains a lot of the same thing I covered.

Please do not take my word for all of this. I am just a random person. But here are the laws involved in this matter, not 3rd party sources. These are official government sources.

Nation Labor Relations Act www.nlrb.gov/guidance/key...

So Congress and the Supreme Court both said that it is only fair for non-members to pay their fair share. This does not however overrule the right of states to enact laws forbidding the requirement of dues, which is why there are 26 states where this is not a requirement.
April 27, 2025 at 2:33 PM
This was written into law and confirmed by the court because unions, under the National Labor Relations Act, are required to equally protect and represent all employees in union workplaces regardless of individual union status.
April 27, 2025 at 2:32 PM
Furthermore the Supreme Court rules in NLRB v. General Motors that a union can legally require dues from non-members, but those dues can only be for benefits they actually receive and can not be used for political purposes.
April 27, 2025 at 2:31 PM
SAG's 30 day "limit" is a legal requirement under the Taft-Hartley Act. After that limit is up however they still can not require union membership, they can only require fair reduced dues in 24 states and nothing at all in 26. This is ALSO in the Taft-Hartley Act.
April 27, 2025 at 2:30 PM
Joe's video had factual inaccuracies due to not fully researching and understanding the laws involved. I fully believe he made the video with nothing but good intentions, but the fact still stands he was very wrong about some things.

If you care about not being ignorant allow me to educate you.
April 27, 2025 at 2:28 PM
I've read the laws involved. Have you? Or are you just mindlessly assuming you know them despite never having read them?
April 27, 2025 at 1:09 PM
The sad reason is that people just want to be angry at the striking VAs, so they defend anything that confirms their biases. I absolutely agree she should face backlash for breaking the rule and then acting like she's a victim when it was her choice all along.
