A peerage is not just an honour or a title - it is a job, as “legislator for life”. (It’s why some of us think the process for appointing peers - so long as we have a House of Lords - should be improved.) The Lords is not just a talking shop or rubber stamp: it makes and can change laws

Finally took the plunge after much prevarication and have deactivated my Twitter account. Musk verifying Reform but not Labour, Lib Dems, Conservatives etc as mainstream parties on X was the final straw for me. There is no longer any room or tolerance on X for any non far right views

Does anyone know who is paying for the legal advice to witnesses at the Post Office Horizon Inquiry? For example, I know Paula Vennells said she had been reading the documents, preparing her witness statements & preparing for the inquiry virtually full-time for a long time and has a "legal team".

Confession time: I am obsessed with the Post Office Inquiry. I am fascinated by the gross failings (corruption?) of numerous high powered people which resulted in so many wrongful criminal convictions amongst other wrongs.

Words of wisdom below
Like Brexit, a policy of leaving the ECHR would split the Tory party

Like Brexit, there is no consensus on what would replace it, beyond nebulous references to the common law or Raab’s fatuous Bill of Rights

It would breach the Good Friday Agreement

It could only weaken the protection of rights

Serious question about asylum seekers coming to England by boat from France: Why do they believe that life in UK will be better than obtaining asylum in say, France? Where do they get info about possible countries in which to seek asylum? BTW in my view, they are asylum seekers, not illegal migrants

In the light of all the Tory MPs not seeking re-election, who will be first to publish their diaries & dish more scandals of the Tory years?

I am reading a book published in 2020 about Brexit which discusses the possible models, ie Norway+, Canada+, no deal etc. What do we call what we have now? Polite, serious answers only, please!
