I can’t think of any glitzy, rosy depictions of NYC in ‘70s film. Maybe All That Jazz had some razzle dazzle, but the subjects were certainly dark. The city was a garbage heap for much of the decade. Perfect backdrop for crime thrillers/blue collar dramas. And my favorite era in American cinema.

Here’s the thing, there’s value in having reasonable discourse with someone you don’t completely agree with, but social media has programmed everyone to be immediately hostile/dismissive/rude. A lot of us are just tired of dealing with that. It’s caustic to society.

I associate Höfners as much with Tina Weymouth as McCartney, end of an era.

it's just kind of the same old story? guy has deep-seated dislike for entire categories of people, tells himself a just-so story about how that dislike is principled and how, if you put him and his friends in power, those people would go away and he would be happy for once.
