This ensures continued growth of Bloodroot and the many spring ephemerals that also call Bloodroot Bluff home. We can’t wait to see them popping up this spring in their newly restored zone. We promise to post photos when they do!

To further mitigate erosion on these slopes, cut honeysuckle material is strategically laid across the ground in a blanket-like fashion. This practice helps slow surface water flow and capture displaced debris, while still being applied thinly enough to allow adequate sunlight to reach the soil.

To protect the integrity of the soil and prevent damage to the Bloodroot root systems, work within this area is intentionally limited to only a few individuals at a time. Volunteers and staff are required to be mindful of where and how frequently they step to avoid soil compaction.

At the same time, the BRRC shows declines in the Local Ordinance, Parks, and Stream Visual Assessment indicators, along with the fact that 58% of indicators scored a D or lower, highlight the urgent need for stronger, sustained conservation efforts.

Our recently completed assessment of the Blue River Watershed in the BRRC received a “C” letter grade overall.

Although the overall grade remains unchanged from the last assessment in 2021, there are signs of progress in the Riparian Cover, Protected Open Space, and Macroinvertebrates indicators.

Each participant is allotted ten (10) votes to distribute across categories of interest, which are now live in the Phase 3 Speakeasy Survey.
