it is /the/ train game. series still runs today - if you've ever wanted to be a japanese train conductor, there's no better simulation. it has a cool specialized controller on many systems, and an even better japanese arcade experience

Ok I beat it - fucking awesome game. Solid 8/10 experience even if the end boss was too hard. Story was actually pretty clever and cool and fucked up if canon

The thing that XI has done better than almost any other RPG, hell most other video games- those palace style dungeons are just filled with a believable amount of rooms, hallways, chambers, stairs - they are like real life scale, every boring detail included, nothing instanced. I love it so much haha

The end game event that happened there ("Sea") was so fucking complex and sick. I was in an ls that ran it twice a week, multiple alliances splitting up to burn NMs for pop items on one day, and then everyone together for jailer fights the next. Sky will always be my fave 75 endgame but this is #2
