Like I said, not a complaint, wouldn’t really want a new Muppet Show to act like it’s still the 70s and did enjoy the music. It’s more just with how much it felt like a continuation of the original and the fact I’ve actually been rewatching the original, made the modern elements feel more noticeable

Tbf the backstage mishaps were always part of the formula, so focusing in on it isn’t the worst idea, but yeah someone was too focused on making Muppet 30 Rock.

It worked so well it kinda made wonder why variety shows stopped being a thing. I guess SNL is one but I always took it more as sketch comedy show. Was the Brady Bunch Variety Hour actually such a disaster that it tainted the format into just being scene as 70’s cheese.

It felt so much like classic Muppets Show that the more modern elements (editing style, more modern music, changes in voices, ect) just kept slapping in the face like a Muppet gag. Not even saying it like it’s a bad thing, just shows the format still works.

I mean, has anything about the pizza place shown up? If anything, I’m assuming that was a red herring to get the people they were stringing along to look elsewhere so they don’t accidentally expose the actual thing.

It’s so crazy that there was a plan at one point for DC to destroy all the fake cities (except Metropolis and Gotham) and have all the heroes move to real cities, but chickened out and only have Green Arrow’s Star City destroyed (and even then it was still around and Green Arrow was doing stuff)

Funny thing is part of the premise of the Runaways is that the villain group The Pride had a dominant control of crime in LA specifically because there’s no superheroes in LA.

They don’t want to be treated like normal humans, they want to be treated with worship. A normal person doesn’t go to a gas station bathroom decked out in body armor, they want the normal people to think they’re cool. They are just getting destroyed by the idea that normal people don’t think that.

(But for real, I’m fine with sex scenes existing, just not that interested in seeking them out. I’m an adult, I can choose which movies I want to watch, I can read the ratings. Not every movie should appeal to me.)
