...the ultimate touchstone of friendship is not improvement, neither of the other nor of the self, the ultimate touchstone is witness, the privilege of having been seen by someone and the equal privilege of being granted the sight of the essence of another, to have walked with them...

Nothing would change the American situation more quickly than organizing marches and protests (instead of sitting in our jammies posting, liking, and commenting.)

Guilty as charged.

But I'm definitely finding some new sources of energy that could shift the tide.

"If you ask people to give up hate, you have to be there for them when they do." Dr. Loretta Ross

The will of the people is not primarily about how we voted.

The will of the people is about how we enact civil disobedience for the cause of justice and resist tyranny. (But also, don't vote for tyrants.)

While I validate and understand fears and frustrations around the autocratic nature of Trump's cadre - it offers a true litmus test for whether the checks and balances of a constitutional republic can effectively pull the reins of presidential power.

Can we please all just agree that car alarms are annoying trash that do nothing but embarrass us when we accidentally "hit the button?"

I have the kind of kids that draw in library books and drink bathwater.

Couldn't be happier.

"AI is too dangerous to drive a car and lacks the subtlety to know how to protect human life."

(Leaves the bar drunk and drives home)...

That's all the argument I need for why AI will be safer on the roads...

I'm certain that I know why my kids are so smart: they drink plenty of bathwater.

Every time I get back into World of Warcraft I say: "I'm not gonna spend all my time in the auction house"

...and then...

Everyone has narcissistic urges and behaviors.
These behaviors make sense because they protect our fragile inner world.
The person with a narcissistic disorder, however, is willing to do harm to others in the name of self-protection.

If you share hurt, fear, or vulnerability with your partner and they are dismissive or defensive
it may not be personal.

It may be them coping in ways that worked when they were a kid (& don't work now).

Assess your own safety & decide what resources you have to risk trying vulnerability again.

As different as we are from one another, as unique as each one of us is, we are much more the same than we are different.

That may be the most essential message of all, as we help our children grow toward being caring, compassionate, and charitable adults.
