Sounds great! Ring of Fire has been up for vote twice now, so I think it deserves a spot. And I’ll be excited to dive back into Prometheus 🖖🏻 #TrekBookClub

Prediction for the next story: I think the “son” of the Ancient Red will actually have something to do with the “sun” of the system. I’m super interested to see where they’re going with the origin of the Renao. Hope it doesn’t disappoint! #TrekBookClub #StarTrekBookClub

Does the phrase “fire with fire” make sense in German? Does the title literally translate? Just wondered if was titled that with the intent of being translated to English
December 8, 2025 at 12:14 AM
Do we know who did the translation? There were only a couple places where I could tell it may have been translated oddly. Otherwise, I thought it was very well done and you couldn’t really tell #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

It sent me straight to eBay to try and find a decent copy of the next book lol #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire. It definitely feels like a “part one” as opposed to a standalone novel

Milka; hard to see but any jammy cookies are amazing with coffee or tea 😋

I’d like to nominate the next Prometheus book, The Root of all Rage

I had a lot of hope that Rozhenko would play more of a part in tempering Kromm’s belligerence, but we don’t really get to see his influence much except for at the beginning. Kromm does get some results, but it’s in a really unacceptable way #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

This was such a nice little chapter. Spock and the Prometheus will probably be forever ignorant of this little dude and his contribution, so it was fun to get his POV. I love how he keeps quoting the Rules of Acquisition. He is essentially Ferengi #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

Jass hasn’t been subject to the slow trickle of propaganda/ possible mind control that has been infiltrating his society, so it comes as a shock. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

I liked the galaxy-spanning aspect. It just took one expert ally looking in the right place to unravel the mystery. Thank goodness for Spock’s Romulan pal. And auxiliary, the Ferengi Glomp 😂. Really loved his chapter #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

Given what we find out by the end of the novel, this character may not have been thinking his own thoughts. It was chilling nonetheless because it seemed so real #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
December 7, 2025 at 4:42 PM
This was a perfect time for that story. It sucks for Jassat, but he has the opportunity to show his crewmates that not all Renao are the same. If he can steel himself and exhibit some Spock-like stoicism, he may get through this. He certainly has a great mentor #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
December 7, 2025 at 4:40 PM
Yes, but in this case rushing headfirst to attack Romulus would have been a huge mistake.

It may not make sense to an instant-gratification individual like Kromm, but Spock’s dream may not be realized in his lifetime, and he’s okay with playing his role towards that dream #TrekBookClub

Jenna Kirk was great as a hard-headed engineer. Adams is a classic stereotypical captain who has hints of Kirk and Picard. I wanted to hear more about Winter and his wizardry #TrekBookClub #FireWithFire

Yes it was cool to see that Mendon became a competent officer. I’m sure he carried that memory of his experience aboard the Enterprise and it helps inform how he operates as a part of the crew #TrekBookClub

I think he was lying to himself a little, but maybe that’s what was necessary so he could keep calm and carry on. He may grieve differently later. There are plenty of jobs today that we could compare to Starfleet. Karen was part of a senseless tragedy. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

I don’t think they could/should have done anything differently. Clear intent is best; the Renao perceived how the Federation wanted to operate in their sector and decided to stay clear. I was actually surprised at how easily the crew were able to get access for their investigations. #TrekBookClub

Ak Namur was definitely a boon. I suspected at this point that “the diplomat” would be a reveal later on #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

Maybe if it was his own child, it would have been worse. He says they weren’t super close. If you want an example of this scenario going WAY south, check out Mackenzie Calhoun’s Captains Table book. Adams was able to keep it professional #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

I felt the same way. Tbf, it must be hard to come up with an original race for the ST universe at this point. Their appearance was okay; the most interesting thing about them was their planetary lore (very Star Wars-y) and those Griklak hives. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

Agree with Mary, this was very 9/11, especially the chilling chapter where we get the kamikaze pilots POV. The attacks just kept coming; there was a feeling that nowhere was safe…what’s going to happen next? #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
December 6, 2025 at 3:30 PM
It would be interesting to try; I’ve never had a job where it was an option. I think it would work better in space, where day and night are relative, and might be totally irrelevant when you go to visit different planets with different day hours anyway #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

Very well put. No powerful organization is perfect, but if you want to make a difference, you might have to sacrifice some ideals if you want your weight to count.

The novels just have the opportunity to do a deeper dive into this. In theory, things should have been more simple in ENT, but the Rise of the Federation novels gives a peek into just how tenuous it always has been. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
