I once saw Andrea perform at a conference in Kansas City for LGBTQ college organizations. They also signed a notebook for me which I need to find at some point. It was when I also hoped to do poetry or writing but just kind of… gave up over the years.

Maybe it’s time to start again.

The fact that some people opt out of this because they know they have control over their own peace pisses them off. They want what they’re owed. They want what their own awful relatives demanded of them when they were young and it’s being denied to them.

We have left an era where people just quietly had to suffer at family gatherings under the relatives who have made their lives miserable or who demand you don’t talk politics even as they do (because they’re beliefs aren’t political, you see).
