Elementary teacher, mama + stepmom.
Book 30: Mathematics for Human Flourishing by Francis Su.

I was a little intimidated because I’ve struggled with math since early childhood (for many reasons outlined in this book!). This book is causing some change to my math teaching!

Book 29: Wondrous Words by Katie Wood Ray and Stella Villalba

I have so many ideas and had my brain spark in so many ways while reading this. There are so many ideas for writing workshop (specifically around using mentor text) in here and…it’s awesome. Highly recommend!

Sometimes as an elementary teacher, you’ve got brilliant high school friends like @heymrsbond.com and wonder if you can take their amazing lesson and scaffold it down to 2nd grade.

And it turns out to be so beautiful (I have the best friends for so many reasons)

Book 28: the September prompt for the reading challenge I do is translated literature and I finished it early.

Minor Detail by Adania Shibli is so beautifully written but really hard to read. It felt like such an important book.

Book 27: Oh Crap! Potty Training by Jamie Glowacki

Lots of great info and I love that it wasn’t rewards based (because I don’t go that route).

Book 26: Pedagogies of Voice
By: Safir, Bagsik, Jaber and Watson

SO good. I’m so glad I read this now because it’s was a beautiful way to kick start my planning brain. So many ideas.

Book 25
The Witchlings: Golden Frog Games (Book 2) by Claribel A Ortega

I knew this one was going to be great (I read book 1 a while ago and kind of forgot plot points!). With book 4 coming out soon…I have catching up to do!

But I loved it. I love the characters and the story ❤️

The Bucket Series by @mrtomrad.bsky.social

I love these! I’m going to read them aloud to my second graders this coming year. There is SO much social-emotional learning woven into these stories. Highly recommend!!!

Book 21: Beyond Compliance in Early Childhood Education edited by Maggie Beneke and Hailey R Love

There’s A LOT in here, but some favorite chapters were about how families push against oppressive systems in school through resistance and one about how to see sped through a decolonial framework

Thank you for the action invite this morning ❤️

Book 20: Dirty Rocker Boys by Bobbie Brown.

This one is definitely an adult book…with lots of stories. People are named and…stories are told 😬.

Book 19: So Gay for You by Leisha Hailey and Kate Moennig

A memoir told in alternating chapter by the two authors. If you enjoyed The L Word, you’ll definitely like this one. A story of growing up, queerness and friendship.

Book 18: Rebel Girl by Kathleen Hanna
I’m deep in life stories right now and I love PNW music life stories.

This one made me mourn Kurt, dislike Courtney more than I do and…love Krist. It was a really interesting and full of heart read.

Book 17: Marsha: The Joy and Defiance of Marsha P Johnson by Tourmaline

Marsha was (and is) a super inspiring human. Her story is one of deep care for humans and fighting back against the system hard. This is a beautiful biography.

Book 16: Say Everything
By Ione Skye

This memoir was full of stories, I read it pretty quickly because I was sucked in. Very raw and open storytelling.

Book 15: The 10 by EA Hanks

I really love memoirs but this one just wasn’t for me. It jumped around so much and felt like too much of somethings, not enough of others and…just wasn’t for me!

Book 14: You Only Live Once David Bravo by Mark Oshiro

I LOVE Mark Oshiro, and while I liked this one it felt long for MG, it had a sweet ending!

Book 13: Genocide Bad by Sim Kern.

One thing I liked about this book is the way some common statements are broken down in different chapters. It gave me a lot to think and talk about.
