“In wealthier neighborhoods, families may be able to provide that support, but tying the quality of a child’s education to their zip code or household income is the very definition of injustice.”

Tonight, at Homework Club…
The kids took such care of me.
I’m exhausted emotionally.
Last night’s school board meeting was too much.
I cried on the way home So, when the kids asked me how I was, I told em.
“We got you, Ms Heather.”
I delight in these humans
I received so many hugs.

Last night, at Homework Club, we demolished 4 trays of lasagna, 2 trays of baked ziti, 4 loaves of garlic bread, lemonade, & Oreos. Students had state testing, so they were mentally exhausted. Lots of them got a hug, a to go container, and went home. Others painted, did needlework, and played Uno.

Tonight, at Homework Club, we dined on Dominos, decorated cookies, made valentine cards. So many kids stayed longer today. I’m going to follow their lead and bring more art. They were more relaxed and playful.

“Ms Heather, please tell your friend she’s nice and her cookies are cute.”

Last night, at Homework Club, we dined on a pancake bar, cookies, tea, and takis. We fed a record number of kiddos. 60? Lots of them dine and dash- with a pinky swear to do one assignment later. 4 students who normally leave stayed:
“Do you feel better with those assignments done?”
“A lot better”
