New paper with @smw.bsky.social & @meredithmeredith.bsky.social. We challenge the narrative emphasising AI bioweapons risks, and bring attention to the covert proliferation of military intelligence, surveillance, targeting, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) already occurring via foundation models. 1/5

OpenAI, Anthropic & others have shifted from championing ethics to signing $200M+ defense contracts that embed gen AI into high-risk military systems. In @theverge.com, @heidykhlaaf.bsky.social explains why the move toward defense partnerships is a safety risk.

"The State of Israel has committed genocide."

Navi Pillay, chair of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, has told Al Jazeera that Israel’s war on Gaza is a genocide.

Given that the US passed multiple EO to lower the thresholds of nuclear safety, it's concerning that "Britain and the US will accept each other’s safety checks on reactor designs, almost halving the time for a nuclear project to be licensed to about two years."

UK and US line up string of deals to build modular nuclear reactors in Britain
Agreements include plan to build 12 reactors in Hartlepool with Centrica, creating 2,500 jobs, and fast-tracking UK and US safety checks

Being recognised in MIT's 35 Under 35 just a week after being in TIME100 AI is such an honour! The profile gets to the heart of the motivation of my work, which includes the use of AI in Gaza that has contributed to a devastating death toll: www.technologyreview.com/innovator/he...

Excited to be included on TIME 's list of the #TIME100 AI of 2025!

Grateful to @ainowinstitute.bsky.social for supporting my work on addressing the safety revisionism of AI in defense/safety-critical contexts where safety has been obscured with little to no accountability.

I spoke to the Intercept on the use of agentic AI for disinformation campaigns, and how SOCOM framing it as a mitigation to adversaries' "use" is a misrepresentation, as offensive and defensive uses are two sides of the same coin that allows them to use it in the same way.

U.S. Special Operations Command, recently implicated in a covert anti-vax campaign targeting Asian countries, is seeking machine learning tools to automate digital propaganda and “suppress dissenting arguments" online, according to a procurement document I obtained theintercept.com/2025/08/25/p...
Pentagon Document: U.S. Wants to “Suppress Dissenting Arguments” Using AI Propaganda
The U.S. is interested in acquiring machine-learning technology to carry out AI-generated propaganda campaigns overseas.

Hind Khoudary explains what happened in the attack on Nasser hospital.

An explosive drone targeted two civilians, one of whom was a journalist. Then, as rescuers went to retrieve the bodies and additional journalists were filming what had happened, a missile targeted them.

Fuck the IOF forever.

After bombing the hospital, their airstrike murders the medics and journalists who arrive to assist/document.

No words...

🚨 SCOOP🚨: Records obtained by Mother Jones almost uniformly show police departments are deactivating safeguards meant to prevent AI bias while making it difficult or impossible to audit which police reports were generated by AI.

@tekendra-parmar.bsky.social reports:
Government documents show police disabling AI oversight tools
Departments aren't reviewing or disclosing AI-written police reports—which are now being used in plea deals.

I really dislike how science has started calling almost any fancy computational technique AI. 🧪

The framing of this entire article makes it sound like a benevolent AI independently made these drugs.

That is *pure fantasy*.

Instead: a team of scientists made a machine learning model for a study.

Article on BBC news.
Title: AI designs antibiotics for gonorrhoea and MRSA superbugs
Description: Two new potential drugs have been designed by AI to kill drug-resistant bacteria, in a major Massachusetts Institute of Technology study.

So Bluesky deleted an account I made (here, in the US) to provide updates on the condition of my friend Sondos Jad Al-Haq and her family of four, who are in Gaza.

Sondos has never used this account. She does not have the password, and has never logged into it.

@mommunism.bsky.social
Automated email from Bluesky:

“Hi there,

A Bluesky account you control has been taken down. A previous account of yours was taken down for a violation of Bluesky’s Community Guidelines. The previous takedown was not a temporary suspension. Please do not create additional accounts on our service. We will take action against any additional accounts as we become aware of them.”

It dispels the myth that AI is somehow objective or in control of itself, as this behaviour was due to an updated system prompt by the Grok team itself. A model can always be nudged and tampered by AI companies which gives them far too much control over our military systems.
heidykhlaaf.bsky.social
We’ve warned before that commercial models pose a much more significant safety and security threat than military purpose-built models (see lnkd.in/e66fRhwh). The recent incident of Grok referring to itself as "MechaHitler" further reveals the risks of relying on commercial models.

This is Anas's final will and testament "I urge you not to let chains silence you, nor borders restrain you. Be bridges toward the liberation of the land and its people, until the sun of dignity and freedom rises over our stolen homeland. I entrust you to take care of my family."

Between a "No Other Land" crew mate filming himself being killed by a settler, to a journalist being killed by airstrikes he was covering minutes earlier, I'm not sure how much more televised Israel's genocide can be
heidykhlaaf.bsky.social
They claimed already he's a member of Hamas, and the BBC has parroted these points. Western media outlets fully intend to cover for Israel and their final solution in Gaza city. He was one of the last remaining journalists in Gaza city to be able to document the horrors to come.
