The @ipcc.bsky.social plays a crucial role in informing both global climate negotiations and national and local climate policy and planning around the world. U.S. scientists have always been key players in the IPCC, and the USAA-IPCC members want to ensure that continues to be the case.

Mijn motie is aangenomen!

OK, seriously, Dr. Kate Calvin is one of the best, most well rounded climate scientists alive. She is the current co-chair of IPCC WGIII AR7, and a fabulous leader. Eliminating her current position as Chief Scientist at NASA is not just a shot in the foot, but an amputation. @ipcc.bsky.social

Takahiro Sayama of SENTAN presenting severe flooding impacts of 2 and 4 degrees of warming in Japan. Large areas of Osaka are below sea level (makes me feel at home! :-)). He is also presenting adaptation measures, storm barriers for instance, although these need to be made higher and stronger.

The mayor of Osaka, Hideyuki Yokohama, welcoming IPCC authors of the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities for their first meeting. We are learning that Osaka and Japan are making many efforts to reduce emissions although more needs to be done to be aligned with 1.5 or 2C of warming.

As the European EV market is just taking off, the EU commission is again given car manufacturers a break, adding more fossil fuel emissions to the climate and air pollution to our cities.

With all the news about the latest data showing that temperatures in 2024 were 1.6°C warmer than pre-industrial levels, many have asked what this means for the 1.5°C of the UN Paris Agreement.
