Several essays in Chabon's MAPS and LEGENDS would fit the bill, especially "Diving into the Wreck."

Because I naively thought that there were limits to indecency. Totally my bad, but there you have it.

Just read the piece on the forthcoming series UNDIVIDED—so looking forward to seeing how this project unfolds in full

On This Day in History: September 30, 1868
Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, Part I, was published in Boston by Roberts Brothers. The first printing sold out within weeks, letters poured in, and demand was so strong that Alcott delivered Part II ahead of schedule the following spring. #booksky

Went to a public NYC high school—avoided the bathroom because I didn’t want to get hassled, mugged, or offered drugs. Race riots were started by white thugs against Black students who took buses to get a better education. Yet, I read MANY assigned entire books, including Sinclair’s THE JUNGLE.

Just got a Rosh Hashanah greetings text from a dear (non-Jewish) friend, and I’m going to savor the sweetness of that. (If you know, you know)

And also read Newman’s novel IN EVERY LAUGH A TEAR

If you want to smile while hiding in the bathroom of shut, read "One Hundred Years of Gratitude" by Lesléa Newman.

The thing is, being autistic doesn't need to be "stopped" or "cured" or further demonized. The entire conversation is wrong.

I should also mention that students loved it--despite its length!

the ”and” in the title should be an ampersand! Oh, how I long for an edit button!

THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER AND CLAY is a novel that brilliantly connects comic book history, Jewish masculinity, homophobia, the Shoah, and US antisemitism (and, yes, I have written a book on Michael Chabon).

A great creator's essay from the great Michael Chabon on one of the best books I've ever read (and one of the most fun books to work on I've yet worked on).

Public health official brilliantly following the science: not being up-to-date on vaccines puts you—and those around you—at risk. Be like Hamilton and do everything you can not to miss your shot.

I like this. Since under RFK Jr, Covid shots are now for people with underlying conditions that put them at risk, Michigan’s chief medical executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian states that not having the most recent Covid shot constitutes such an underlying condition.

In her recommendation, Bagdasarian stated,
"Any person over the age of six months without contraindication who has not received a dose of a Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved or-authorized 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine may be considered to have an underlying condition that puts them at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19 and is thus eligible to receive an age-appropriate dose."

Yesterday, I was in a store that had display after display of honey bears. And today my regular grocery had an overwhelming number of honey cakes, babkas, & sponge cakes, not to mention round raisin challahs. It’s beginning to look a lot like Rosh Hashanah, and I’m definitely not in Texas anymore! 😏

Ah! Then I hope the side effects are minimal and pass quickly. I
had a pretty sore arm after my Covid shot—ice worked wonders once I was smart enough to think of it! 😉

Clearly wearing my Jewish mother jeans today! So hope I’m not being a budinsky!

Why do them at the same time? Perhaps do Covid first—while you can—and then do flu mid-to-late Oct. so you have better coverage for flu season? Just a thought to lessen the side effects and maybe provide better-timed flu protection.

Another glorious Friday morning to run to work over the Brooklyn Bridge!

Especially grateful today for the glimpse of that copper-plated statue in the harbor reminding us how lucky we are — and what it means — to be New Yorkers.
