Not that this is even remotely the biggest issue with this, but the resource also states that it is used for teaching anti-racism, not history...

Perhaps my favourite day in the teaching calendar: Robin Hood Prince of Thieves day, in which I get to share my favourite historical documentary with my trainees and then sadly explain why they can't use it to teach medieval history. Or English geography.

At least I didn't use a spoon.

Phew! See you tomorrow :-)

Resharing this for new followers. Please do have a read of these articles about the history of a Muslim school in London and about the frankly absurd decisions made by the Michaela School about prayer.

I've been a bit of a lurker since I joined here a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to start with two posts shamelessly promoting a couple of articles I have written about religion and schooling. My third post will, in contrast, be a picture of a cat in a jumpsuit.

The school Cat Stevens built: how Conservative politicians opposed funding for Muslim schools in England
Archival documents show that in the 1980s, British education officials refused to engage with Muslim communities about funding faith-based schooling.

Same - I expected this to be lower down the priority list.

Seems like some sort of move towards sanity and positive that the DfE has actually responded to feedback.

Same! I mentioned it to my PGCE group recently, comparing it to the ultimate Robin Hood (Prince of Thieves, obvs), and none of them had heard of it! I know this shouldn't be shocking but it is.

Incredible keynotes from UCL's Alison Kitson and @danlyndon.bsky.social of @1972shp.bsky.social at the Midlands History Forum Conference this morning. We are delighted that so many people made the journey to the Black Country Living Museum this morning for what is turning out to be a fantastic day.
helenfcarr.bsky.social
Agree! It's a bit weird given that the teacher quoted in the article seems to have used the morning for life admin and self-care rather than sleeping.

Day 8 of term and I'm having a crisp sandwich for lunch.

I'm not even sorry.
