yeah so glad that twenty years later these tiresome pathetic old things have been rendered obsolete across Eastern Europe... right? right???

Our authoritarianism is run on clichés borrowed from the Eastern Europe of twenty years ago. Paid protestors, disloyal cities, evil Soros, vast conspiracies — it was all tiresome then and there, and now it’s pathetic.

Trump: "They're, like, insurrectionists, they're terrible people. But you really wonder why. Why are they doing it? What are they gaining? Other than they're obviously paid. They're paid a lot of money."

Doing some back of the napkin math on the Free Press acquisition, I've determined The Onion is worth $2 trillion.

that's key. but once a billionaire makes it into that govbiz sphere, a related cycle of recurring appointments and overlapping projects begins. so rowan is not only involved in university takeovers, but also in the planned takeover of gaza www.thedp.com/article/2025...
Wharton alumnus Marc Rowan floated as potential member of authoritative board overseeing Gaza
The plan would establish an international board which will serve as the “supreme political and legal authority for Gaza during the transitional period” and comprise seven to ten members.

THREAD. In Trump's speech to an unprecedented gathering of generals, he announced that he was preparing to order them to use American "cities as training grounds for our military." I want to highlight a few other statements that are bone chilling and put them into context that U.S media obscures.

his team deserves the plaudits, but in all honesty, this exact same campaign would flop with most other candidates... it doesn't work without his charisma

"AT SOME POINT" so like maybe next year once you get the focus groups ready, right?

talk about "snowflakes" etc... ugh

not sure those moments of realization are coming... complicity and denial offer a great range of masks to get through so much of life

badly implemented, yes, and it applies to this entire enterprise

yeah there's no going back to those primitive times

ok, so here's the deal: for the incredible convenience of saving 14 minutes of busywork for some people who like to use it, this chatbot machine will occasionally & randomly help kill someone—like, it *will* end someone's life—but the users get to keep access to their little machine. it works!

My students made a good observation, realizing how much scholarly research, across sciences, humanities, etc, has been embedded in all kinds of public-serving institutions (hospitals, gov depts, archives)—but that realization came about only thru seeing such firings & vacancies from top down...

it's not about "feeling." NSF has been hollowed out, defunded, and the remaining state-sponsored, taxpayer-funded grants are being redirected exclusively toward privately owned "AI"—for what? hoping that something good will come out of Trumpist science? good luck bsky.app/profile/morg...

Something surreal about seeing scientific consensus on vaccines and climate change being ignored, grants being rescinded, higher ed threatened, etc.

Every post recently at NSF is about AI.

No need to think and discover. The computer can do it for you.

Where is the human aspect of innovation?

thanks for changing the question, but i think i'm going to stick with what i asked above and ignore the whataboutism.

Saving time — great. But very telling to compare that with what you posted yesterday: every non-AI way of doing research is being currently drowned out by constant AI noise for ... what exactly? Isn't this NSF example just unhinged?
