Maybe this is because I’m a huge language nerd (and occasional snob, sorry!) but I’m surprised by how sloppy and careless the author‘s discussion of etymology and translation is (the author‘s own background!) in comparison to how much effort is put into critiques of 19th century culture and society.
I started Babel this week, and I'm frustrated with how the author does not seem to trust her audience: its story, its style, its footnotes are all defensive, lest some reader question the author's truly unparalleled moral superiority. Less literature than emblem of the author's purity and goodness.

It's been storming super hard in Athens recently with crazy amounts of lightning and thunder and now I am starting to understand why Zeus was king of the gods here!! This lightning is terrifying!

There was a huge thunder storm here last night and when a sudden loud clap of lightning shook my building, I awoke to find my arms around my boyfriend and his around me and I am so thankful for the small things in my life like that

Therapy has pointed out that a lot of my habit of posting slutty pics online was a way of dealing with tough feelings, so I’m approaching a phase where posting doesnt appeal much to me anymore, but I’m also working towards being a slut because it’s fun and not because i’m struggling

I decided to prioritize sleep this winter to see if it helps my depression and anxiety and as someone who has chronically underslept most of his adult life, getting 8 hours each night feels like I’m just like always asleep now and it’s hard to get used to without feeling like I’m sleeping too much 😵💫

I've been reading the novel Frankenstein and the most relatable part is when the Monster is on his way to exact revenge from Victor, all angry and upset, and then experiences a nice spring day and just sort of forgets everything because the weather made him so happy and joyful. So real.

Being on the other side of the world from my twin means that legally, I was older than my brother for ten hours even though he’ll always be the older twin. It’s the small victories

My boyfriend showed me Death in Venice this evening, a visually stunning work, whose magnificence is in its ability to strike dread and discomfort in me as I watch the dissolution of a man who’s allowed his darkest impulses to thrive because he just so happened to gaze upon a beautiful boy.
