Nearly 50 NHS trusts that perform well on patient care have been downgraded because they are in deficit.

But analysis of NHS England's own figures shows two-thirds of those are under-funded - raising questions about the fairness of the new league tables

NHS England has been pushing trusts to treat more patients from the same (or less) resources.

But even trusts with productivity improvements are overspending their budgets - suggesting this alone isn't the answer to the service's financial woes.

Labour MP Paulette Hamilton criticises the health and visa care introduced by previous govt.

Says workers on this visa had more problems at work due to lack of support. Adds UK "cannot be bringing in people when there are so many people here who are unemployed".

Tim Meek, of Assoc of Anaesthetists, says paper records were faster than current NHS tech.

Says it used to take three mins to go through a set of paper notes.

"It now might take 10 minutes to scroll through maybe four or five different apps on a slow laptop"

It seems the issue was incorrect cancer data. But it will reinforce criticism of the league tables, as relatively minor (or even no) changes in score meant a trust moved segment

Good question from Blake Stephenson and one that had been annoying me

Looks like ICBs will be reorganised *again* when (or if) the government goes ahead with creating mayoral strategic authorities across the entire country

The health sec says league tables help patients choose where to get treatment.

But some of the best for patient care have been marked down due to deficits.

Does the government really want patients to be diverted away from these hospitals?

This is a national scandal caused by Wes Streeting. Months of anxiety for ICB staff, and we still have no idea who will have a job if / when this process can actually start. Our ICB's leadership team has been exceptional despite the mass uncertainty caused by this government.

In March NHS England's new boss ordered boards to cut staff costs in half by December.

But now integrated care boards are delaying redundancy processes because the Treasury has refused to fund lay-offs.

Good to be quoted in this piece. Reform's "DOGE" has been a complete bust, high on rhetoric and low on meaningful change

Reform's councillors have worked out that their councils' finances are not going to be fixed by cancelling a few "DEI" programmes

This matters because trusts have been told to reduce staffing numbers to stay within budget. Many were planning to do so by not replacing staff when they leave.

Now they are having to look at redundancies - which carry a one-off cost they will struggle to afford

Record-low turnover ‘will derail savings plans’
The rate of NHS staff leaving their jobs has fallen to the lowest level in more than a decade, as many organisations seek to cut their paybill, analysis reveals.

Earlier this year NHS England celebrated staff turnover falling to record low as evidence of improved retention efforts.

But NHS insiders say the reason fewer staff are leaving is that there are no jobs to go to.
