I hate this political use of ‘deliver’. Don’t highwaymen request you “Stand and deliver!”? There must be a white van equivalent of Sam Goldwyn’s “Messages are for Western Union”.

The best story I’ve read so far was a lecturer who expected 40+ students to turn up for the introductory lecture. No one appeared. After waiting for 15 minutes he called one of them. “Professor, I think you’re in the wrong room . . .” He was.

No, it’s just used generally to clear up yards, large patches of invasive weeds, etc. If it kills a few other pests in the process, all to the good.
