These sorts of inefficiencies happen on quite literally a daily basis. Everybody in the system knows this. Everyone.

Yet what is the government’s diagnosis?

“Juries. They are the problem. Get rid of juries.”

It is absolutely mind-boggling.

To say the entire press taking this utterly cynical, vexatious horseshit and ramping it up into national terror amounts to a big thumb on the scales of democracy significantly undersells just how serious this stuff is. It raises questions about whether we’re a democracy in any meaningful sense.

Like, it was very obvious it was a heavily choreographed campaign of bullshit and shenanigans, but even I assumed it was *at least somewhat organic* and not just the country’s most tiresome reactionary crackpots meeting up offscreen and agreeing to all scream the same drivel in unison.

It took a two year campaign of digital deep mining, bullshit and screeching to convince the public Old Jezza had a racism issue. This government is straight out wearing black in front of a billowing sixty-foot Union flag like Norsefire, promising to fuck up the migrants. These things are different.

These things would be equivalent if Old Jezza had made the acceptability of big nose caricatures the core of his appeal to the electorate. They are not even slightly comparable if he didn’t do that, and it is IMO impossible to miss this unless you are determined to miss it.
