@blackcatholicmessenger.org @natemup.com Black Catholic Messenger amplifies Black Catholic voices. IMHO, essential reading for all Catholics and of much value to non-Catholics as well.

one reason i love The House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones is that I sooo relate to the mysteriously multiplying laundry and dishes. No treasure but iirc at least the protagonist is not shamed for preferring to read books

One Lent years and years ago, our parish had for its token "Peace" Stations of the Cross one in which the readings each related contemporary situations involving torture, rendition, unjust incarceration, etc. I have thought this moment would be a good one to do something similar.

My father always said "Don't get your bowels in an uproar." But just to us kids, never to an adult.

During a discussion of active shooter protocol when I worked in higher ed student affairs I said very firmly that, Yes, I would be willing to die to protect students, but only because that is what my faith calls me to, NOT because it should be assumed by my position, and I was met with SHOCK.

Harmless-looking white ladies better step up our game. Protect the people who have been doing the work for years. Wield what's left of your privilege, protect your neighbors, and HOLD THE LINE. Be a Karen, louder. Ask to see ICE's manager.

I'm so old that when I first had jury duty the judge told us "this is not Perry Mason. No one is going to pop up and confess to the crime in the middle of the trial "

i totally get that. i have a kid (young adult now) who is nd and has issues with noise, crowds, etc. As you say, compassion and self agency go a long way. knowing your needs and the best way to take care of them while coexisting with others. A lot of non nd folks would do well to learn that too!

yes! i have long believed (and occasionally shared with strangers) that adults are annoyed by babies or kids crying because we're angry that *we're* not allowed to just cry when we're tired or frustrated, we have to keep it together.
