It’s commonly thought that Louis Pasteur first showed that microbes cause disease. In fact it was M. Joseph Berkeley in 1846, who first showed that a fungus-like microbe probably caused late blight disease of potato-almost 20 years before Louis Pasteur formally proposed the germ theory of disease. 🧪
