I’m nervous about the fact that this has 98k likes, meaning people will just believe him because they want to, but I’m also trying to remind myself that many of the likes could just be bots. It’s impossible to gauge public opinion from social media anymore.

Opinion pieces are always presented as being more credible than they should be when elevated by an established media org (NYC, Atlantic). I think these brands genuinely believe they will attract more conservatives, but so far they’ve just pissed off their current customer market.

Honestly statements about tax flight sound like nothing burgers at this point; not only does this statement feel out of touch but w/o the date stamp it’s so non-descriptive that I wouldn’t know which party he’s a member of.

I worry opinion pieces too often get mistaken for actual news by less wary readers. All news is opinionated/biased, but opinion pieces don’t require the work of fact checking that other NYT articles do, and that makes the writer seem more credible than they are when placed next to real journalists.

😢 it’s so disheartening. The only thing that I’ve found moves the needle (not entirely but slightly) is if I’m able to point out that a source is AI or misleading and site a real news source that they respect as having the correct information.
