A fun thing Catholic academics like doing is saying stuff like “in theory, rigorous enforcement of immigration law is not per se unjust” while very much not-in theory beatdowns of migrants are being recorded all around them

Watching a training video that is about 80% real footage and 20% AI. Very jarring when the switch happens

Inktober October 8. St. Reparata. An early Christian martyr, according to pious legend she was killed during the persecution launched by Emperor Decius. Her persecutors first tried to burn her alive but were thwarted by miraculous rainfall, after which she was decapitated.

I’m not sure if this will turn out the same with a loin rather than tenderloin

Any recs for a good pork loin recipe that would pair well with mashed potatoes?

One person in our neighborhood has a camera that also gives a verbal warning that you are being recorded. Like, chill, I am walking my dog here

Hate them for the same reason. I don’t want to be under surveillance by my neighbors 24/7

When Google Glass came out it was before people had their social mores eroded by the ubiquity of people filming everything with their phones, and the few people who did that kind of thing were looked upon as rude and narcissistic. But now it’s the norm, so the heir to Glass is largely ok to most

The reason I don’t like meta glasses is the same reason I don’t like people filming with their phones at all times. Why make it easier for people to be actively anti-social?

I have friends who say this book isn’t that bad, but I always associate the cover with that era

Sure, influencer culture these days is bad but at least it doesn’t do that stuff as much. Thin line between honesty and weird performative humblebrag stuff about your sex life

Was looking at some notes from pre-Cana (in 2006!) and remembering how that era was when all the Catholic bloggers and writers were producing articles and books where they went way TMI about their intimate married lives because of something something Theology of the Body
