An older translation renders this as “the barbarians were elated by their arrival.” Personally I enjoy “cock-a-hoop,” more colorful, pride before the fall, foolish etc.

My failure with social media is I find replying to others to be a cloying, desperate venture. Whereas other people see it as making friends. If you compare the results “they” have a commanding lead.
