Pollster? How was it conducted? Without that info, this is useless info.

Great observation.

Any chance you'd send ICE up here and take Scheer back? He's American.

Yeah, so they can whitewash it.

Its working out quite well. Only about 1/4 want to separate. That goup, I agree, cannot be reasoned with. Same with MAGA. Reasoning with them won't work, but reasoning with moderate Republicans or independents does work. Hurling insults at the intransegent minority does more harm than good.

Good luck with that approach.

We're in very early days with the AB separation movement. It's getting press bc that's what the press loves. Its support is small here. The minority who whine about unfair treatment in Canada need to be ignored, not inflamed.

But none of what I've said excuses American political leaders from interfering in our domesitic politics. But can we do something about them? Nope.

Yes, talks with France were widely known. France supported Q separatists. Calling the PQ traiters would have done nothing for Canada's cause. It would only have cemented opposition to Canada.

A conservative could say that talking to me about reproductive choice is like talking to a brick wall. He'd be right. I, and others, draw certain lines on certain issues. But separatism isn't one of those kinds of issue for most. Most Albertans are open to reason.
January 29, 2026 at 5:44 PM
Did you call out Quebec separatism as treason? They had talks with other countries about separation. Treason accusations were made there and it hurt, it didn't help. Fortunately, in AB the strong majority favour Canada. Quebec was much closer.

I have relatives who are separatists. I make a point of avoiding inflammatory comments and we are able to talk rationally. True that with some you cannot. I'm not as interested in that group as I am in those who haven't really taken a position.
January 29, 2026 at 5:25 PM
Same. Waterfalls and rainbows are awesome!

But AB separatism needs to be met with strategy, not insults and bogus legal claims (ie, separation is not treason). Our position loses traction when we adopt MAGA tactics.
January 29, 2026 at 5:22 PM
I'm left on pretty much all issues. But using treason in the context of a separatist movement that, like Quebec, follows legal channels, is rubbish. It pours gas on the flames, divides and entrenches folks further. Focus on the many positives in Canada and on what unites us.

100%. But a vigorous campaign on the benefits of Canada is the best response to separatism.
January 29, 2026 at 1:29 AM
I'm Canadian through and through, and talk of treason when citizens broach the subject of provincial independence is BS. Let's remind Albertans of the advantages of Canadian citizenship, not threaten them.
