Also, I find him to be an inspiring figure because of how he overcame his mental illness and turned it into something that made him powerful. I know there's a lot to dislike about him, but I find that deeply encouraging.

I was raised in a super conservative Protestant household, and when all of that was falling apart in my mind in my teenage years it was Lovecraft who introduced me to the idea that maybe we've just completely misunderstood everything about the big picture, and that had a huge impact on my mind.
