The weather this week has been a little rough & it’s delayed releasing some of our patients.

Here's a throwback to some woodpigeons we hand-reared & released on site a few weeks ago. They were more than ready to go!

Hopefully the weather will improve soon so we can do some more releases!❤️🪶

A day of brilliant lifers for us. Platier d’Oye reserve just outside Calais was bone dry with little about, but gave us Icterine Warbler & Natterjack Toad.
Belgian reserve, Ploegsteert, near Lille gave us Little Bittern, Short-toed Treecreeper & a Goshawk. Happy birders 🪶😊

Birdwatching in the Causses & Cévennes National Park, France in the hope of seeing vultures. First we saw was a Lammergeier! Loads of Griffon and Black vultures in the Gorge de la Jonte. Plenty of Red Billed Choughs & Alpine Swifts. Excellent heatwave-escape birding at altitude #birds

Both baby wrens feeding and pooing beautifully this morning. They’re on their way to @follywildlife.bsky.social where the volunteers work in shifts to keep all the baby #birds fed dawn to dusk. 😊

I’m 1 of @follywildlife.bsky.social ‘s most experienced baby #bird feeders. Tonight I have 2 cute wrens in my care that were found outside a local pub with a 3rd who’d sadly died. They’re being fed every 30 mins until sunset. I’ll be up at dawn to carry on the feeds until I can get them to Folly

Two buff-tips before we even opened up the moth trap. First record for our garden. The day has started well!! 💕 #moths @savebutterflies.bsky.social @kentwildlife.bsky.social #30dayswild @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social

We’ve had a month of big raptors
White Tailed Eagles and Golden Eagles on Mull, Bald Eagles in Pennsylvania and then a WTE pitches up on our home patch in Kent 💕 #addBird #Birding #ElmleyNNR #UKbirding #USbirding

First Corn Buntings of the year for us at #ElmleyNNR today. White Tailed Eagle was considerably larger than the usual fence post raptors seen there… even at a distance through heat haze. The Little Owl was downright judgmental 😂 Also loads of Cinnabar and 6 spot burnet moths.

Lovely Saturday morning wildlife. Frogs aren’t usually this bold in our pond by day. The Carrion Crows are too good at carting them off.

A hedgehog had a good snuffle round our pond looking for snacks last night. The water level is lower than usual due to the weather. It & our wild ‘lawn’ are undoubtedly a welcome feeding area when everything is so dry. @hedgehoghugh.bsky.social @kentwildlife.bsky.social @katebradbury.bsky.social

We’re familiar with watching our gardens spread out in strange positions sunbathing on the lawn, but have never before seen a Treecreeper doing this on a vertical tree trunk. It was a beautiful Cumbrian morning today

2/ …Joseph being very cold he made his way to us.

He was very cold & weak on arrival. Warmth, fluids & a full check over were given; luckily he had no injuries.

He’s been in foster care, is coming on in leaps & bounds & is already quite feisty! We‘ll keep you updated on his journey ❤️

1/ Our first badger cub arrived last week. Meet Joseph ❤️

A lady walking her dog found him above ground wickering for mum.

She called Brighton Wildlife Rescue who sadly found a dead female not far from the cub & sett. Joseph had obviously gone looking for her.

With no sign of more cubs, &…

One swallow doesn’t make a summer… especially with a bitter northeast wind-easterly on Sheppey. However, it does make a fab start to a stay at Elmley NNR @kentwildlife.bsky.social

This is the most spread out frog spawning we’ve had here in Kent. 1st spawn Feb 23rd. After a few days, a week of hard frost, then phase 2 spawning then a 2nd period of frost. This morning tadpoles from phases 1 & 2 and new spawn at the other end of the pond! No toadspawn…yet! @froglife.bsky.social

Toads seem to spawn about a month after the frogs in our Kent pond. Frog spawning started Feb 23rd. Tonight a toad walked in bang on schedule. I can make out other eyes in the background, but can’t be sure whether they’re frogs or toads. 🐸 💚

We’ve not seen much of the frogs for several nights thanks to frost. Tonight they’re back in business! Some of the earlier spawn froze and has died, but there’s so much that we aren’t particularly concerned. It looks like more is on its way tonight! 💚🐸

Fab day at Elmley NNR today. Barn Owls out all day! Short Eared Owls very obliging. Hares feeling frisky in the spring sunshine. And a BlackTailed Godwit originally ringed in The Netherlands in May 2024

Blue Tits started nesting in our camera nest box this morning. Ten days later than last year. Baby bird season at @follywildlife.bsky.social is on its way 💙

Morning after the night before… they’re still active in daylight

So many frogs!!! Our West Kent pond is full of action tonight! We only had 1 blob of spawn this morning. I think there may be rather more on its way! Who needs television at this time of year?!😁 🐸

Can’t help get excited when a badger turns up in the garden. It doesn’t happen often, but it explains who ate the peanuts that I knocked out of the feeder I had soaking in disinfectant overnight 😍🦡
