Stay open the same hours and make it more affordable by reducing tax. Will the government make more in tax if the price is lower so more people go? I dunno, but I would like to be able to socialise in pubs without stressing about the price.

There's a type of thinking, quite depressive in nature, that's far more likely to logically extrapolate into the future without getting caught up in fantasies of things tangibly improving. You don't need to be depressed, just really realistic.
