A fearless young organizer from San Antonio, Texas, Tenayuca fought for workers’ rights, racial justice, and dignity—despite arrest, red-baiting, and death threats. Her story, largely left out of mainstream labor history, still resonates in today’s struggles for immigrant and worker justice. WorkWeek looks at the rise of fascism in the US, Trump’s history and the installation of fascist government in the United States. WorkWeek talks with researcher and writer Russ Bellant who has spent decades studyng the fascist movement in the United States Bellant talks about who Trump has appointed to his government and their history with racist and fascist organizations and their plans for insurrection and martial law including Pete Hegseth who now is in charge of the Pentagon. He also talks about the fascist religious ideologues who are sanitizing US government libraries to remove the real history of the US and also seeking to order publicly funded education institutions to change their curriculum to mold itself to these Dominionism and other religious cults. These religious cult supporters are now being appointed to top government positions. He also discusses the program of Project 2025 and how it is aimed at destroying the trade union movement and privatizing all public services, public education and completely deregulating the economy. Bellant looks at the growing threat of martial law and how some are denying this by claiming that this is just more authoritarianism and not actual fascists in charge of the government apparatus.
